    Hi,

I am a first-year MBA student at The Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University, and I have a few questions about the Senior Financial Analyst Internship. First, since I do not attend one of the core schools, is there someone to whom I can address my application materials? Also, in prior years have there been interns from non-core schools? Any insight that you can provide would very much be appreciated. Thanks.

Gabe- thanks for your questions. First, regarding the application process, you're first step is to apply online for the internship position. The link for the position can be found on the blog in the lower right hand corner, under the section entitled "Current Sr Financial Analyst Openings". Applying for the position online will get your application process started...it's pretty much all online. Regarding your second question, this year, we're making a stronger effort to reach out to a wider pool of candidates for our internship positions. We have done this in year's past, but to a smaller scale. Yes, we have had interns from non core schools in prior years, including interns from diversity conferences we attend (The Consortium, NSHMBA, NBMBAA). Again, thank you for "interacting with us".

I recently accepted the offer for the SFA position and am really excited to be joining the Best Buy team. In addition to this blog, it would great to get some advice on which websites/blogs/feeds would be most helpful in staying current in CE, retail, and relevant technology. Thanks

Lane- great question. Here are some recommendations from myself.

    1. Twice magazine is a CE magazine and offers daily news via email. Great to keep up on products, vendors and players.
    2. I also receive the Consumer Electronics Daily (think we have a corp subscription) - it provide relevant daily news for the CE industry.
    3. I'd follow our competitors in the news - national and regional (e.g. HHGregg).
    4. I follow a ton of technology sites via their sites and twitter. They include ars technica, boy genius report, cnet, engadget, gear live, gizmodo, mashable, tech crunch, technorati and wired.
    5. CEA is a the Consumer Electronics Association - they have a site with info and have a monthly publication too - think you need to be a member though (Best Buy has a membership).
    6. I also follow a couple of cnet podcasts - e.g. Buzz Report, Digital City, etc. and the Engadget podcast. Podcasts are great sources of info related to industry, technology and products.
    7. Lastly, First Glimpse (available in BBY stores I believe) is another source for product information.

    Hope that helps.
